LAWRENCE DELROY LEWIS 1899-1959

Lawrence Delroy Lewis was born on January 27, 1899 to Lawrence L. and May Derr Lewis who resided at 704 Main Street, Watsontown.  Delroy’s father, who’s father was born in Scotland and mother in Ireland, was the general manager at the Shoe Company.  Lawrence and May had four children: Helen D., b. February 1894; L. Delroy, b. 1899; Marjory E., b. 1906; and Kathryn M., b. 1909.  Delroy graduated from Watsontown High School in 1919 and attended Susquehanna University where he was a corporal in the student army training corp.

On November 6, 1945 Delroy was elected Chief Burgess of Watsontown and was sworn in on January 7, 1946 serving until the end of 1949.  Delroy was a staunch Democrat working diligently for the progress of the party.

Mr. Lewis was a member of Watsontown Lodge No. 401 having been raised to a Master Mason on March 1, 1927.

Delroy died on March 28, 1959 at the age of 60 and was buried at Watsontown Cemetery.
