  1. Jeremy Young Says:

My grandmother was Enid Marie HARTMAN (not Hartranft)..I believe someone may have typed her name onto this website incorrectly, as the person below her has a similarly-spelled last name. She passed away last year, and I would appreciate if we could honor her by acknowledging the proper spelling of her name. Thank you very much!

Comment by James Robison: Thank you Jeremy for your correction – I know how frustrating it can be when someone misspells a name or even worse, gets it wrong all together. This is one of the reasons the website was established so the public can proof the work and a most accurate history can be recorded. I double checked my original source – a newspaper account entitled “Bits of Area History” by William G. Murdock, the listing for your grandmother was indeed “Hartranft” but after cross referencing with a 1945 Yearbook, I see that it should be “Hartman.” The correction has been made and I thank you again for pointing out the mistake.

I wondered where this Eugene McBryan lived. In town? Also Hazel McBryan from the class of ’33, where did she live? Is she a relative of Eugene?

Comment by James Robison: The McBryan’s happen to be relation of mine. Hazel was the oldest and Eugene the youngest of six children born to William G. and Josephine H. Hagey McBryan. I’m not sure where they lived growing up, but their mother was from White Deer.

I’m glad to know you are related to the McBryans. My sister would have graduated 1939, I believe My brother who graduated 1947 , said there was a McBryan in my sister’s class, he thinks that man’s nickname was Jake or Shorty. Anyone you know about? Thanks for any info

Comment by James Robison: There was indeed a McBryan in the class of 1939 ~ his name was George Franklin McBryan (not aware of any nickname). George was born June 19, 1921 and died August 27, 1972 in Florala, AL. He had married Dazzie Harrison on December 7, 1943. George served in the US Airforce during WW II and the Korean Conflict. His widow died August 15, 1987. They are both buried at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Florala, AL.
