When the Warrior Run Task Force solicited input from the residents of the community back in the early 1990s, the number one concern was emergency services. Soon after this survey was conducted the WRCC was formed The WRCC decided to act on the number one concern of the community.
Russell Guthrie mediated a meeting with the leaders of the fire departments in the Warrior Run Community that included the Allenwood, McEwensville, Turbotville, and Watsontown fire departments.
It was widely accepted that consolidation was the way to provide services and the leaders began to solicit input from their respective fire departments.
It was found that by combining resources, manpower, ideas, leadership, and the elimination of duplication of services was necessary to make it a reality. The services of the DCED were secured. Fire Commissioner David Smith became involved State Representative Merle Phillips was enlisted.
All municipalities were notified of their expected involvement. After several meetings, these municipalities decided to hire a third party consultant. The findings of the consultant concluded that this area was very conducive to combining the services of all area fire departments serving the Warrior Run area.
An independent mediator was hired to conduct an information session to decide on which was the best way to pursue this endeavor. It was found that forming a cooperative group, now known as the Warrior Run Area Fire Cooperative, was formed.
During the process, the McEwensville fire department dissolved and the McEwensville Borough enlisted the services of the West Branch Volunteer Fire Company.
More discussions were held on the Fire Board membership, by-laws, SOGs, municipal financial responsibilities, training guidelines and fire department organization.
Once these issues were finalized, a final vote was taken at all respective organizations.
The Allenwood fire department, West Branch fire department, Delaware Township, Gregg Township, McEwensville Borough, and Watsontown Borough agreed to form the Warrior Run Area Fire Deptartment.
State Representative Merle Phillips secured a one million dollar grant. Fire Board members were selected. The Fire Chief was appointed. The Administrative Chief was appointed. And that’s where we are today.
In August 2006, the Turbotville Fire Department joined the Warrior Run Area Fire Department. The Turbotville Fire Department will become the East Station and the station in Watsontown is now known as Headquarters.

Comment by James Robison: Thank you for the update. This is valuable information. If you would happen to have the exact dates for when the Warrior Run Area Fire Department was established and the date Turbotville Fire Department joined – that would be helpful. And also the first members of the fire board as well as other officers of the department would be great too. Again thank you for your assistance in bringing the history up-to-date.

Comment by James Robison: Thank you for taking the time and energy to investigate and share the information – do appreciate any help people can offer.
